About

Nexterity has developed a hands-free robotic tool for the (un)bolting of industrial pipeline infrastructure. (Un)bolting of pipelines is very common and required for routine maintenance and construction of all piping infrastructure. Today, this is primarily accomplished with hand tools/wrenches or electrically powered impact wrenches. These tools require a human user to be in close proximity to a pipe and its bolted joint. SAFETY (Un)bolting interface activities are safely managed by a human-in-the-loop via remote control. With our hands-free tool, humans and their hands are able to distance themselves from the pipe and its joint for safety. This distance not only allows for additional safety in the bolting process but also clears enough space to allow a nimble robotic tool to better position itself in front of the pipe joint. With this additional clearance, the robotic tool can interface with multiple bolts at a time. SPEED This dexterity and access enables the tool to provide a speed advantage of up to 8x in the (un)bolting process versus the current manual alternative. QUALITY When interfacing with multiple bolts at a time via machine, there is significant reduction of human error in the bolting process. This allows our technology to deliver equal if not better quality than human labor, without requiring the physical exertion. Our tool allows for torque setting within +/- 10 ft*lbs of a target torque and provides the consistency and reliability of a programmed machine.
