ABOUT MEMORY LANE

Last month, The Economist made a striking claim in their cover story on AI: “That some people will leave chatbots of themselves behind when they die seems all but certain.”

It’s an idea ripped straight from the pages of science fiction – and one we’re bringing to life now that the has arrived to make it possible. Memory Lane is using AI to capture people's stories & wisdom before they die, and then use that data to:

  1. Provide their loved ones with a searchable, user friendly way to call up stories
  2. Train an AI model to eventually create an eternal digital version of the storyteller

We’ve assembled an all-star team and are working with a fantastic venture studio, H/L, to get an MVP off the ground in the coming months.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Memory Lane is actively building product ahead of a summer 2023 MVP release date, and we need a skilled Frontend Engineer to evolve our tech demo into a well-architected, maintainable MVP able to accommodate the expansion of our user base.

At Memory Lane, you'll be working on cutting-edge AI technology, developing innovative solutions to an important problem. As a Senior Frontend Engineer, you'll have the opportunity to lead the development of our frontend, working closely with our team of backend developers and our AI engineers to ensure seamless integration. By definition, you’ll be building from scratch – so adaptability and creativity will be key. Your main areas of responsibility will be:

  • Collaborate with our product team, UI/UX designers, AI engineers and backend engineer to design, develop and maintain a scalable and secure platform using React.
  • Write clean, readable, and maintainable code that adheres to software development best practices.
  • Ensure that our users have a seamless and intuitive experience using our web app (and future mobile app) on any device.
  • Participate in code reviews and ensure that the codebase stays consistent and maintainable.
  • Contribute to improving our development workflows, tooling, and processes.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest frontend technologies and trends, and apply them where appropriate.

You’ll report directly to our CTO, an experienced entrepreneur with a PhD in AI and experience leading early-stage technical teams and building products from scratch. The role has the potential to grow into a Lead Frontend Engineering position where you'll recruit and lead your own team, and make crucial decisions that shape the company's engineering culture.

ABOUT YOU

We’re a growing team and are more interested in finding talented, motivated people than we are in meeting a specific set of criteria for the role. Among the traits that matter most to us are adaptability, collaboration, creativity and the ability to work independently – if you have those in spades alongside a passion for our mission and an enthusiasm for collaboration, we’d love to hear from you and talk through how you can contribute to Memory Lane.

Specific experiences we’re interested in include:

  • Proficiency in React.
  • Experience with AWS.
  • Experience in Django or Flask to work with our backend engineer.
  • Experience in system design.
  • Familiarity with GraphQL and with AI technologies is a plus.
  • Passion for doing simple, maintainable designs and code.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
