General Position Description

The Site Safety and Health Engineer ensures all managers and supervisors insist on the maximum safety performance and awareness of all employees under their direction by enthusiastically and consistently administering all safety and health policies and procedures established in the Conti Safety, Health and Environmental Program

This position is responsible for the implementation of the project Safety and Health Plan and for the daily coordination of safety activities with the Project Management Team.

Overview:

Conti Civil is on the lookout for a motivated and safety-minded individual to join our team as an Entry-Level Safety Engineer. This role is designed for someone who is passionate about building a career in safety within the civil construction industry. As part of our team, you'll play a key role in promoting and ensuring the health and safety of our employees on project sites. You will be immersed in our Safety, Health, and Environmental Program, gaining hands-on experience while being supported by a dedicated safety department of experienced professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing and updating the Site Safety and Health Plan (SSHP) under the guidance of senior safety staff.
  • Learn and help enforce compliance with safety and health requirements, including federal, state, and local laws, OSHA regulations, and Conti Civil’s safety standards.
  • Support the implementation of safety procedures and policies, encouraging a culture of safety among all team members, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Participate in safety orientations and training sessions, helping to organize and deliver content as your experience grows.
  • Assist with daily safety inspections and contribute to maintaining PPE inventory and safety equipment.
  • Support senior staff in accident/injury investigations and in the preparation of reports and recommendations for corrective action.
  • Engage in safety meetings and planning sessions, offering input and learning best practices in safety management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety, occupational health, engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • 1+ year of experience in a construction.
  • A strong interest in the construction industry, particularly in civil projects, with a keen desire to grow in the safety field.
  • Basic knowledge of safety and health standards and eagerness to learn more about regulations (OSHA, DOT, EPA, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Organizational skills and a proactive attitude towards learning and professional development.
  • Familiarity with MS Office suite and openness to learning new software and systems.
